Caroline Paradise is a qualified architect with a PhD in Architecture. She is an Associate Director at Atkins and Head of Design Research within the Building Design practice. Her role supports a research driven design approach to provide innovative design solutions across a range of sectors. Her time is currently divided between developing and managing research initiatives and working with design teams on in-depth stakeholder engagement programmes to ensure the aspirations for a project are embedded at the outset.
As an architect, Caroline is passionate about the important connection between research and design and the inherent value in capturing lessons learnt from completed projects. With a PhD in Architecture focusing on the connection between daylight design and the physiological wellbeing of building users, Caroline is committed to gaining a greater understanding of the impact of design on our physiological and psychological wellbeing.
Heavily involved with digital engineering development at Atkins SNC-Lavalin she has recently led the development of Atkins’ award winning Human Centred Design toolkit that capitalises on technology to embed user wellbeing at the heart of all our projects.
As well as supporting an RIBA Research initiative focused on social value she also sits on the board of trustees of the Higher Education Design Quality Forum (HEDQF), a charity that aims to support quality environments for learning and teaching, within which she also chairs the Research Working Group.
