As Head of Projects for Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), Chris Barnes is responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of an extensive portfolio of transportation schemes; including new transport interchanges, tram lines, cycling and walking infrastructure, bus priority routes and rail station enhancements.
During his 20-year career at TfGM, Chris has overseen the design, construction and opening of many new transport schemes, including the new £350 million Trafford Park Line Metrolink extension; the £48 million Bolton Interchange, which relocated the town’s bus station to a new site adjacent to its railway station, connecting the facilities via a pedestrian skylink bridge; and the £19 million remodelling of Altrincham Interchange, which provided rail, tram, bus and taxi passenger infrastructure as well as a cycling hub, as part of a truly integrated multi-modal transport facility. He is passionate about delivering facilities which make a positive contribution to the communities that they serve.
