
Clive is a highly accomplished senior executive with 15 years’ extensive experience operating at board level with a number of blue-chip organisations. A well-rounded executive with a track record of leading business and industry through transformational change, resulting in world class performance and established industry best practice. A highly adaptable individual with enthusiasm, passion and drive who demonstrates resilience in the changing environment. His inspirational leadership style enables his people to thrive and deliver excellent results, whilst creating a culture based on accountability, trust and professional integrity.
Clive recently retired from the Monday to Friday world of work as Group Head of Health & Safety for Derwent London PLC after 3 years in post to take on more executive roles as NED for the Duchy of Lancaster and Yorkshire Citizens Advice and Director of the Construction Clients Leadership Group. Clive is an expert in improving the health, safety, security and wellbeing culture of any business and creating the right environments for people to thrive. His passion, personality skills, knowledge, attitude, training and experience well places him to assist Derwent London PLC in their quest to manage and mitigate business risk over a very diverse portfolio. Clive’s mantra is to be Risk Aware not Risk Averse but to act responsibly.
Clive has just completed a two-year term as President of IIRSM, a professional body and educational charity with members all over the world. Clive was elected in December 2020 following two years in the Deputy President role and has been a Trustee of the Institute six years.
Clive chairs Construction Clients Leadership Group and represents them on the CIC H&S Committee.
Clive also eight years at Landsec PLC as their Group Head of Health, Safety and Security based out of their Head Office in London. As a senior leader, his role was to ensure health, safety and security compliance across a very diverse property portfolio, which include shopping centres, retail parks, leisure, residential, hotels and development projects.
Clive has also been HS&E Manager for Asda Wall*Mart and HS&E Leader for BAA on the Terminal 5 Project. In 2014 Clive was invited by Construction Industry Advisory Committee (ConIAC) to chair the Client Working Group in the development of a Client Guidance document for CDM 2015. More recently in late 2020 Clive was invited by the Construction Industry Council to sit on their Building Safely Committee post Grenfell.
Clive is now driving the health and security agenda and is committed to promoting a risk management approach. He is keen to ensure that health receives the same billing as safety and he is on the Executive Committee of the Health in Construction Leadership Group (HCLG) made up of industry leaders including HSE, BOHS, IOSH, IIRSM, Unions, CITB, Clients, and other influential stakeholders.
Finally, Clive was awarded the Freedom of the City of London for his work on health, safety and security and more recently has been asked by the Cabinet Office to be part of their Inclusive Economy Partnership Programme focusing on Mental Health also a trustee for the No Fall Foundation Charity and more recently he has been appointed as a trustee of Yorkshire Citizens Advice.
