Steven started his career as an electrical apprentice for British Rail before moving into the Health & Safety discipline. Following 10 years with British Rail he moved into the construction sector working for Lovell Construction, Sir Robert McAlpline, Skanska and Arup, including 6 years on the construction of High Speed 1 between Folkestone and St.Pancras station in London. Following this, over an 8 year period, Steven held several senior leadership roles for Network Rail on major projects and the as Head of Health & Safety for their national projects business. This was followed by 9 years as the High Speed 2 Head of HSS operations where he was responsible for managing and overseeing the Client HSS delivery teams in supporting the design and construction phases for the Civils, Stations and Railway Systems contracts. In 2024, Steven took up the role of Head of HSW for the Civils programme on construction of the multi billion pound Sizewell C nuclear Power plant and is currently supporting the teams through the design and early construction phases Steven has a Masters Degree from Leicester University in Health & Safety Management, with a special interest in behavioural safety programmes.
