Open Source Kit of Parts (OSKOP) represents a collaborative paradigm, originally rooted in software development, now embracing broader values like open exchange, transparency, and community-driven development. Our consortium, comprising architects, main contractors, and materials manufacturers, synergizes collective intelligence to optimize Kit of Parts in new school construction. Auburn group were the first main contractor to use this approach on Greatfields primary school in Barking. This new £12m project for BeFirst and the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham has created a 3FE primary school for the Gascgoine estate redevelopment. With completion scheduled for 2024, using this MMC kit of parts.
We are a consortium of architects, consultants, main contractors, and manufacturers. Our diverse group leverages collective intelligence to enhance the utilisation of Kit of Parts in new school construction. The main working group is composed of various organizations with unique expertise; Sweco: Focused on delivering compliance obligations, particularly concerning the Building Safety Act, Building Control, and Building Health & Safety, Fire Engineering design; Haverstocks: Specializing in the use of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) to deliver specialist schools, acting as client design advisors and providing technical guidance and design review; Parmarbrook: Engineers with extensive experience in education building projects using MMC for contractors and clients; Sixfoot Studio: Technical advisors for numerous Department for Education (DFE) and local authority schools, supporting education design for main contractors; Better Delivery. MMC advisors and Cost Consultants; Adrian James Acoustics: Acoustic consultants with a background in supporting clients and main contractors; Bond Bryan: Experts in school design with a focus on creating financially and environmentally sustainable learning environments for clients and main contractors.
This is a simple low-cost initiative that helps make workplaces truly inclusive. 1 in 25 men over 40 will experience some form of leakage every year. That means on a medium sized construction site with 200-300 operatives you could have 10 men using the bins rather than suffering in silence. By having the means to Dispose with Dignity, they also no longer need to dispose of sanitary products by flushing them down the toilet, carrying with them for the day, or having to use other non-hygiene bins, which has a massive impact on the lives of people and the planet.
CWG’s implementation of Impulse stands as an award-worthy solution, revolutionizing construction management. Unlike traditional methods prone to delays and rework, Impulse offers real-time, accurate data through 360º image analysis, ensuring precise progress tracking and immediate issue alerts. The AI-generated Spotlights pre-emptively flag potential issues, mitigating costly mistakes. By providing insights at both building and room levels, Impulse enhances project focus and decision-making. Its audience-specific reports not only save time for project teams but also offer comprehensive summaries for executives. This innovative solution bridges the gap between planned and real progress, fostering faster, more efficient construction, and boosting profit margins.
By selecting, removing, and refabricating the highest quality steel sections from end-of-life buildings, EMR Reusable Steels has created a steel product with 97.5% less embedded carbon than traditional alternatives. Already in use in major projects, such as Stanhope’s renovation of 76 South Bank, this game-changing material became the world’s first reusable steel product to gain an EPD in 2023. EMR Reusable Steels enables construction firms and developers to build more net zero projects while reducing self-imposed carbon taxes and the impact of any legislation targeting embodied carbon (via the proposed Part Z update to UK building regulations).
In 2023, Fugro undertook a geotechnical investigation for the proposed Codling Offshore Wind Farm. Due to the significant operational considerations to deliver the works safely in this section of the Irish Sea, Fugro designed and manufactured additional specialist pieces of equipment including a hostile environment rising case system, sliding drill deck on the jack-up for multi-point locations, specialist casing handling equipment to facilitate rapid drilling, and casing embedment equipment. These innovations were designed and fabricated in-house and utilised on our Excalibur jack-up barge to enable us to save the client time and money without compromising on data quality.
This innovative UK-made spill pad has significantly reduced hydrocarbon contamination on construction sites. EnviroPad employs patented technology to transform hazardous liquids like oils and fuels into a non-hazardous solid, locking them in permanently. It's effectiveness and practicality is a key factor in helping companies to implement lasting pollution prevention strategies.
