The Bertha Project stands out for its strategic solution connecting new developments around Perth to the wastewater network, reducing flooding risks, and enhancing operational efficiencies. The project was completed on time and within budget, using innovative low-carbon composite steel pipes and incorporating sustainability features like solar PV and electric car charging points. Client satisfaction was high, with positive feedback from local MSP John Swinney. The project left a lasting legacy by supporting Perth's growth and engaging the community through initiatives like the gardening project with Beautiful Perth.

The Mountbatten House refurbishment successfully blended heritage preservation with modern office design. The Grade ll listed building, featuring iconic terraced roof gardens was transformed into premium office space while retaining its architectural significance.The renovation included a new café, enhanced accessibility, upgraded amenities and fitout of the AA’s new flagship headquarters. Sustainability was key, with features like solar panels, rainwater harvesting and a glass recycling program, earning the project BREEAM Outstanding certification. The project successfully met the client’s vision to create a vibrant, user-centric workspace, and exceeded expectations, cementing strong client relationships and showcasing a commitment to design and sustainability.

Govan to Partick Bridge
Farrans

The Govan-Partick Bridge, one of Europe’s longest opening pedestrian crossings, was delivered on time and on budget in September 2024 by Farrans for Glasgow City Council. This 99-metre cable-stayed swing bridge features a 650-tonne moving span and a 45-tonne fixed span. Since opening it has re-established an historic connection between two communities and delivered significant benefits for the city and wider region. This project optimises all that can be achieved with true collaboration between contractor, client, supply chain and the local community at the heart of a construction project.

The Orsett Heath Academy project showcases McAvoy’s excellence in Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), delivering a 1,200-pupil school within just 8 months from installation. Utilising advanced offsite modular construction, McAvoy integrated inherited designs seamlessly while leveraging cutting-edge digital tools for precision and collaboration. The project prioritised sustainability, achieving a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating with energy-efficient systems. Community engagement and local heritage were central, with proactive communication and a commemorative installation. Exemplifying speed, innovation, and social value, this project highlights McAvoy’s commitment to quality and customer satisfaction, setting a benchmark for MMC in education.

The team overcame twin challenges; developing affordable resilient detailed designs against the challenging Regulatory obligation date. Proactive early engagement facilitated MWHT’s intelligent design and constructability expertise. This enabled alternatives, reducing the “what”, and addressing the “how”, developing sustainable solutions that included reuse rather than replace. Onsite challenges of inlet works hydraulics and ground conditions were overcome with innovative mindsets that both kept current Client works operational delivery at the heart of the project and delivered carbon and sustainability excellence. Finally, the team respected and cared for the workforce and provided a positive social value into the local community.

With 35% of the existing structure retained and a proactive approach to reducing carbon and waste throughout construction, it sets new standards for what can be achieved through collaboration. A model for future developments, 11 Belgrave redefines what a modern workplace can be, offering long-term social, economic, and environmental benefits while demonstrating excellence in construction, sustainability, and innovation.

Tilbury Douglas’ Durham Investigative Hub is a pioneering police facility that redefines custody and forensic infrastructure. As the first UK facility built to the 2022 Police Custody Design Guide standards, it integrates cutting-edge digital construction, sustainability, and social value. Delivered on time and within budget despite industry wide challenges, it achieved a 163% social value return on investment and significantly enhanced local economic impact. Praised by Police and Crime Commissioner Joy Allen as a "game-changer," this project sets a new benchmark for collaborative and sustainable infrastructure, leaving a lasting legacy for law enforcement and the wider community.

Warringtonfire: Fire testing laboratory

Tilbury Douglas successfully delivered Warringtonfire’s £30m fire resistance testing laboratory, Europe’s largest fire testing facility, six weeks early. Tripling testing capacity, it supports stricter fire safety regulations with advanced furnaces, enhanced confidentiality, and cutting-edge flame detection. More than a facility, it’s a vital industry resource ensuring compliance with the Building Safety Act and driving fire safety innovation. The project reinforces the UK’s commitment to safer buildings while generating £9.57m in social value, fostering local engagement, and aligning with a Net Zero 2050 strategy. This milestone enhances fire safety standards and strengthens the industry’s ability to meet evolving regulatory demands.

Eclipse leisure centre
Willmott Dixon

Eclipse Leisure Centre sets a new benchmark as the world’s largest wet and dry leisure facility built to Passivhaus standard (certification expected Spring 2025), consuming 60-70% less energy than comparable buildings. Innovative use of sustainable materials saved 1,686 tonnes of embodied carbon. Delivered within the £43m budget, community work in around the site generated £8.5m in social value through high impact community initiatives, creating 129 local jobs and 441 apprentice weeks. Despite challenges, Willmott Dixon ensured meticulous quality, health, and safety, supported by bespoke software. Eclipse exemplifies customer satisfaction, sustainability, and innovation, leaving a lasting legacy for the community.
