Construction is working to cut its carbon, and an awards night should hold itself to the same standard. This page sets out what we are doing for the Construction News Awards 2027.
THE VENUE
The awards will take place at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House London on Park Lane. The hotel holds the Green Key eco-label and Forbes VERIFIED Responsible Hospitality certification. It aims to send no waste to landfill, uses an AI tool called Winnow to measure food waste and plan greener event menus, and no longer uses plastic straws.
THE MENU
We are working with the venue on a dinner menu that swaps beef, one of the highest-carbon foods, for lower-carbon options. Choosing the lower-carbon dish on the night is the simplest way for guests to help us reduce the event’s catering footprint.
SUPPLIERS AND COLLATERAL
We favour partners who take sustainability seriously. Tickets will be electronic rather than printed, and we plan to keep reducing printed material year on year. Anything we do print will use recycled paper.
Our signage comes from Insite Graphics, which holds ISO 14001 environmental management certification. It will be recyclable, reusable, or used to generate community power at the end of its life, so none of it goes to landfill. Inks are water-based, and we are moving more signage to cardboard that can go into standard paper recycling.
AUDIO VISUAL PROVIDER
Straycat Communications, our AV partner, will provide the stage set. Most of the lighting and backdrop will be LED, which uses up to 80% less electricity than traditional tungsten lighting. The company avoids running its trucks empty and uses suppliers based in London.
